Should be one near the garand of the barrel looking down from the top, on the trigger housing, bolt, and all internal parts. Every tracker of a carbine should have a maker marking. Cal should be marked behind open sight with the manufacturer. If it's USGI and has a flip safety, adjustable rear garand and bayonet number, it's mostly likely been rebuilt at least once.
